A Central Voice

Many of the founding members of IIA have worked for the last several years lobbying and convincing members of the FCC, Congress, State Senators and local officials of the importance of a vibrant and competitive market for ISPs in America.

As the forbearance battles began, we rallied efforts throughout the ISP community by influencing and educating ISPs and their customers of the need to file comments and petitions with the FCC against granting the RBOC requests.

Successful forbearance requests could truly end the independent ISPs ability to offer broadband services as we provide them today and cause true harm to the vitality of the industry itself.

Now, like never before, independent ISPs need to band together and provide the central voice in Washington. We have the ability to reach millions of people in a very short time. IIA members are working together to educate the end consumer in ways the RBOCs simply can not do.

We, the independent ISPs, brought dial up to areas viewed as unprofitable by the RBOCs. We found ways to provide services the end user wanted at a time no one thought it was possible. Now the RBOCs want the FCC to believe they can do it better. IIA is here for you, to get your voice heard.

A Unique Organization

As ISP owners, we realize that the current administration and the climate in Washington is not conducive to the survival of the small independent ISP. Yet through the recent FCC ruling against the SBC forbearance petition, it became very clear that many of the small ISPs had made a real difference. The forbearance comment filings, along with the filings of the hired attorneys, were significantly noticed by the FCC and referred to in their recent ruling against SBC. We believe that as an organized entity, we can make a difference if we pool our resources, lobby our political officials, and mobilize our customers as part of our efforts.

If you have any questions about the organization, please take the time to find out more about us. We are growing an organization that is truly for ISPs and the promotion of our industry. We want to stop fighting RBOC battles as they come before us on the defensive and begin to go set the agenda by articulating a coordinated offensive. We believe that as skilled entrepreneurs we have an incredibly creative pool of talent that the RBOCs are unable to match because of their very different approach to issues. Please join us in our efforts to create a vibrant market for us to prosper.

The RBOCs are currently running promotions “The Future Faster”, and while we want the faster future, we want affordable choices for consumers at the same time.
